Step 1 When you know what size plaque you want you can either send us through any ideas you have to be engraved or we can design several layouts for you to choose from that incorporate different fonts, artwork and overall layouts of the inscription. If you do create your own layout we will advise you if the lettering is too small or if the fonts are able to be cut into the granite.
Step 2 Once you have confirmed your layout we create the stencil, apply it to the plaque and pull out each letter and peices of artwork.
Step 3 The plaque is taken into our booth and sandblasted - this method uses compressed air to propel aluminium oxide through a hose onto the face of the plaque. This is done by hand as the stone mason carefully moves the hose over letters on the plaque. Due to the immense pressure the aluminium oxide 'blasts' away tiny peices of granite as it hits the surface. The sandblasting process achieves a greater depth that will ensure the lettering lasts, has cleaner lines and a superior finish to the lighter etching done by a laser.
Step 4 After the plaque is engraved it is painted with your choice of enamel colours. We can also do gold guilded lettering but this is an additional charge as we use real gold leaf.
Step 5 The plaque is then cut to size using the stencil as a guide. The edges are then bevelled and polished using many different polishing pads to achieve a high polish on each side.
Step 6 The plaque is then cleaned, carefully packaged and sent on it's way.
