What to write on a memorial

Updated: Dec 21, 2020

For so many people it can be hard to put into words the love and admiration they have for their pets, especially when you only have a limited amount of space.

We are often asked 'what do people typically write on a pet memorial?' The answer is - it depends on the item it is going on. For example, granite plaques require the largest minimum size for lettering due to the engraving process whereas ceramic/porcelain plaques can have the lettering incorporated as part of the image so the lettering can be much smaller (bear in mind if you go too small you won't be able to read it easily).

For a small plaques it needs to be kept short and simple, usually the name and either a few words or the birth and passing dates. For larger items typically include the name, dates and a message either to or about their pet as well as incorporating either a photo or artwork.

Below are some examples of short sentences that try to capture the love and loss we feel for our pets.

She/He left pawprints on our hearts

Gone but never forgotten

Sadly missed

Treasured always

Waiting at the rainbow bridge

Forever in our hearts

She/He was loyal, loving, faithful & brave

A true friend

Our faithful companion

No longer at our side but forever in our hearts
